What
about the Quanix Handy, Quanix 4200, & Quanix 4500?Quanix is a company in Germany. Automation USA is the American distributor. They sell three versions for car buyers. The Quanix "Handy", the Quanix 4200, and the Quanix 4500. The "Handy" is nearly classified as "low end". Most dealers, I know, would not be caught at a dealer auction carrying one of these. Contrary to their marketing, this meter is NOT the choice of most dealers. However, to it's credit, the Quanix Handy does measure over steel and aluminum. There is a firm selling a re-badged Quanix Handy as the "FS427". They do offer a nice guarantee and they honor the warranty here in the US. Here is the MAIN problem with the Quanix
Handy. It's not accurate enough. The accuracy is (+/- .4 Mil + 5%)! So, if the
reading is 6 mils, the Quanix Handy could read from 5.3 to 6.7. And, the
Handy also rounds to the nearest .5. It only reads like 5.5, 6.0, or 6.5. Not only is not accurate enough, but
then it rounds its reading! Think about that. That As a comparison, the PosiTest's accuracy is (+/- .1 Mil +3%). So, it will read 5.8 to 6.2. That's a nice tight range! And, it will actually read "5.8" - no rounding. The Quanix 4200 only measures over steel. It does not measure of aluminum. So, do not buy this meter. The Quanix 4500 measures over both steel and aluminum. It is also a 3% meter, like the PosiTest. This is a good meter - no doubt about it. It will read in mils and microns. However, you do have to press a button for it to switch from steel to aluminum - this is not so with the PosiTest or Elcometer 311. The main reason I do not recommend the Quanix 4500 meter is because if it needs repair, guess where you have to mail it? That's right, Germany. AND, you pay the shipping! Add in the fact, that you have to press a button to select either steel or aluminum, I simply can not recommend this meter. I can't in my heart of hearts recommend any of these Quanix paint meters. This is why I am not a reseller of Quanix products. |
